Drag Racing
What more can I say! The 60s were an era of true racing excitement! But just to clarify, it wasn’t exactly like it is today. Motorcycle racing has always captivated audiences! While bikes back then didn’t reach that exhilarating 200 miles per hour in the quarter mile, you can be sure they do now!
In the 60s, it was quite uncommon for women to take the wheel as race car drivers. However, they often occupied the seat beside the driver! This was especially true for the type of racing that boomers enjoyed on quiet streets. Alternatively, they might have been positioned between the lanes to signal the official start of the race!
Just as I attend racing events today, many races of the past revolved around showcasing the cars driven to the track!

Drag racing and automobiles, in general, captivated the youth transitioning into young adulthood in the early 60s. Despite the tragedies associated with it, nothing could hinder the trend that ultimately shaped the baby boomers' fond memories of cars, music, dating, and much more. This obsession with speed fueled what has evolved into a significant industry—drag racing across various categories, blossoming into a multinational phenomenon. It’s quite likely that some of today’s professional racers once joined the ranks of street racers back in the 60s!
